Terms of Use

1. Agreement

By downloading or using Ferric you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Ferric is made by Iván Montiel Cardona (“we”, “us”); you can reach a human at [email protected].

Ferric is distributed through Apple’s App Store, so Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Where these terms and Apple’s standard EULA disagree, Apple’s EULA prevails. Read Apple’s standard EULA .

2. Your licence to use Ferric

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Ferric on the Apple devices you own or control. You may not resell it, rent it, redistribute it, or attempt to extract or repackage the toolchain it ships with. Ferric’s name, icon and design are ours; the open-source components it builds on remain under their own licences.

3. Your code is yours

Everything you write in Ferric belongs to you. The app compiles and runs your code on your device; we do not collect it, upload it, read it or claim any right over it, and we place no restriction on what you do with what you build. See the Privacy page for the full picture. Privacy.

4. Plans and purchases

Ferric has a free tier that stays free: the single-file Scratchpad, full on-device compile and run, and the built-in interactive Rust tutorials. Ferric Pro is a paid upgrade that adds multi-file projects, crates.io dependencies and incremental builds. It is sold either as a yearly subscription or as a one-time Lifetime purchase.

All purchases happen in-app through Apple. Apple takes the payment, holds your billing details and issues the receipt — we never see your card. Prices are shown in your App Store storefront and may differ by region and over time; the price you see at purchase is the price that applies.

The yearly subscription starts with a 14-day free trial and renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. You manage, pause or cancel it in your Apple ID subscription settings — not with us. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policy; if something went wrong, write to us anyway and we will help you make the case.

5. Version fallback

A yearly Pro subscription is not a hostage arrangement. If your subscription lapses, you keep Pro features on the last version of Ferric that was released while your subscription was active — you simply stop receiving newer versions until you renew. This works the way JetBrains’ perpetual fallback licence does, and the app enforces it on-device from your App Store receipt.

A Lifetime purchase unlocks Pro on every future version, with no renewal.

6. Third-party crates

In Pro, Ferric can download packages (“crates”) from crates.io that you ask for as dependencies. Those packages are written by third parties, come under their own licences, and are not ours — we do not review, endorse or warrant them. Choosing and complying with a dependency’s licence is your call, exactly as it would be on a desktop machine.

7. Acceptable use

Use Ferric lawfully. Do not use it to build or distribute malware, to break into systems you do not own, to infringe someone else’s rights, or to work around the App Store’s purchase and licensing checks. Do not attempt to disable, reverse-engineer or circumvent the licensing in the app beyond what the law expressly allows you.

8. What Ferric is, and is not

Ferric runs a real Rust compiler inside the WebKit sandbox on your iPad. That environment has real limits: there are no operating-system threads, crates with native C dependencies do not build, and very large projects can exhaust the memory iOS gives the app. We say so plainly on this site and in the app rather than pretending otherwise, and some features are labelled experimental because they are.

Features described on this website as planned or coming soon are exactly that: they are not part of what you buy today, and we make no promise about when — or whether — they ship.

9. No warranty

Ferric is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will compile every program you throw at it. Keep your own backups of work that matters to you.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits or lost data, arising from your use of Ferric. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and you may have consumer rights in your country that these terms do not affect.

11. Changes and termination

We may update these terms as Ferric changes. The current version always lives at getferric.dev/terms, with the date at the top; if a change is material we will say so in the app’s release notes. Continuing to use Ferric after a change means you accept it. You can stop using Ferric at any time by deleting it; we may end your licence if you materially breach these terms.
